Overcome past traumas
Q: I just recently happened across Jose Silva's work. I had sent out a plea to the universe to help me finally overcome my limiting beliefs and step out into the world in a more empowered way, so that I can help more people. Within 24hrs, I came across Jose Silva's UltraMind ESP System.
I would LOVE to learn more, to find out how I can train more in-depth so that I can start to share this method with my clients and community.
A: Thanks for writing and for the things you are doing to help people.
We cover some strategies and techniques for dealing with old negative programming, limiting beliefs, and traumatic experiences, in 2 or 3 chapters in our newest Silva book: Silva UltraMind Systems Persuasive Thoughts:
It is available in print, eBook, and audiobook formats, and is available at major booksellers worldwide.
While presenting Webinars a couple of years ago - and answering a lot of questions - I have clarified my thinking on this subject a little more. There are 3 things we need to address:
- Neutralize the memories (remnants) of what happened in the past. Our brain reacted to every experience - our experiences influenced the way our brain developed physically. We cannot get rid of those memories (not even by surgery) , but we can neutralize them. You can use the 3-Scenes Technique for that. Replay the original experience in the 1st Scene, then change it and replay it so it comes out the way you wish it had in the next 2 scenes.
- Program to take care of business today. Program yourself to do the things you need to do to help you socialize better. You might need to program yourself (your actions) with the 3-Scenes Technique, or to communicate subjectively with other people to find out what they suggest and how you can act around them in a way that is beneficial to both of you.
- Get your body involved - take action in the physical world to implement and manifest what you have programmed for mentally.
"Mind guides brain and brain guides body" so remember to do the physical work.
We have a lot of information in the Persuasive Thoughts book from Dr. Clancy McKenzie, who has served as a consult to us for more than 50 years. He is a psychiatrist who worked with a lot of Vietnam war combat veterans with PTSD - and with more recent veterans too. The Silva techniques guided him to an understanding of the cause of depression and schizophrenia, and he has developed treatment methods that have helped thousands of people.
He also works with old childhood traumas, especially "separation from mother" traumas. He refers to those problems as "delayed PTSD." In the book he explains exactly what he advises his patients to do and how you can do it for yourself.
It sounds like you would benefit from both the Silva UltraMind ESP System Complete Home Seminar and the Choose Success Course, which has Jose Silva's problem-solving techniques exactly the way he authored them.
Remember this:
We don't correct problems by working on the problem, but by concentrating on the Solution.
Some personal experiences
Q: I have not being able to be as demonstrably successful as my potential suggests. I have tried several of these success programs in the past.
A: Back when I first took the Silva Mind Control course in 1975, some Silva Lecturers had a lecture on "dealing with fear, guilt, and doubt." Some said that "You can rewrite your past history."
When I started teaching the course I presented the same lecture, for many years. We even have it in our Silva Self-Management Course.
Now, after 47 years in this business, I have a different way of looking at things, based on Jose Silva's research, along with research conducted by Dr. Clancy McKenzie MD, a long-time consultant to the organization, and my own observations and experiences.
It is true, at deep levels of mind, we can rewrite our past history.
However, that doesn't erase the memories impressed on our brain neurons long ago. The brain is actually modified by our experiences. When there is strong emotion - fear, guilt, shame, etc. - much stronger impressions are made on brain neurons, and the changes in the brain are more extensive.
I suspect that when we go to a deep level and "rewrite" our past history, we are providing an alternative that we wish had happened. Once we do that, we can stop obsessing about the past.
Mind guides brain and brain guides body, so when we think of something we don't want, change the thought - change the mental pictures - to something we do want.
You didn't mention what you are trying to do today that you are unable to do, so I'll use my experience to explain:
After experiencing some nice successes with the technique - and being unemployed at the time without any idea of what kind of work I wanted to do - I wanted very much to teach the course. My Silva Lecturer encouraged me, and had me get up in class - in front of 50 or more people - and explain the technique were were going to learn next.
That was very stressful for me. I was always worried that I would say something wrong and turn people off, or perhaps I would forget something, and then the students wouldn't get the benefits of the coursework.
I did a lot of programming at very deep levels, I visualized myself talking to larger and larger groups, but not much changed, until one day, while at the alpha level, I asked myself why - what the real reason was that I was so nervous. "Because if I make a mistake, they will make fun of me" was the answer that came to mind.
"Why should that bother me?" The answer to that was that when I was still 5 years old and started first grade I was wearing high-topped "corrective shoes" to provide more support to me feet that had been weakened by the polio I had a year earlier. Other kids teased me and bullied me.
"That's a 5-year-old reaction!" I thought. "I'm not going to let a reaction that is appropriate for a 5-year-old stop me from doing what I need to do today!"
From that moment on, my whole attitude was different:
Instead of asking my instructor, "Have I told them everything I'm supposed to?" after I explained a technique, I looked out at the 50 people in front of me and asked myself: "Do they know everything they need to know in order to be success when we do this next conditioning cycle?"
Removing whatever was blocking me from being a confident lecturer was not the solution - it was the problem.
The solution was helping the students get the most out of the coursework.
Later it occurred to me that every kid does embarrassing things and gets teased and bullied. I wasn't unique. And I realized that my thinking that was the root of my problem was probably just an excuse so I could get on what what I needed to do. So I still have no idea what I was so nervous about speaking to groups of people.
My thinking now is that there are 3 steps involved:
- Rewrite your personal history at a deep level of mind, give yourself an alternative outcome so that whenever you happen to think of the past event, you immediately switch to a positive thought.
- Program yourself at the alpha level for what you need to do today. In my case, every time I went to level, I imagined speaking to large groups. And - in my mind - the groups go bigger and bigger (in my mid) the more I did this.
- Get your body involved. Go do it.
Also make sure you obey the Laws of Programming. If you are only doing something for yourself - only you will benefit - it will be tough to succeed. The more people who will benefit, the greater your chances of success.
Here are the Laws of Programming:
You should do to others only what you like others to do to you.
The solution must help to make this planet a better place to live.
It must be the best for everybody concerned.
It must help at least two or more persons.
It must be within the possibility area.
The Laws of Programming are featured in all of the Silva UltraMind ESP Systems Courses. Jose Silva said he would never have had the success he had if he hadn't obeyed those Laws.
That is where we believe the emphasis should be.
Remember this:
We don't correct problems by working on the problem, but by concentrating on the Solution.
